“The Man in Black fled across the desert, and the Gunslinger followed.”

— Stephen King, The Gunslinger

“He looks like anybody you see on the street. But when he grins, birds fall dead off telephone lines. When he looks at you a certain way, your prostate goes bad and your urine burns. The grass yellows up and dies where he spits. He’s always outside. He came out of time. He doesn’t know himself. He has the name of a thousand demons. Jesus knocked him into a herd of pigs once. His name is Legion. He’s afraid of us. We’re inside. He knows magic. He can call the wolves and live in the crows. He’s the king of nowhere. But he’s afraid of us. He’s afraid of… inside.”

— Stephen King, The Stand

The first character that came to mind was a recurring antagonist in a lot of Stephen King novels. I first met him in The Dark Tower series but he makes appearances in other books such as The Stand as well. Who is he? The Dark Man, Randall Flagg, The Walkin’ Dude, The Ageless Stranger, The Man in Black, Marten Broadcloak, Walter O’Dim, … those are a few of his names. He’s a sort of semi-immortal wizard who deals in death, disease, violence, what have you. His main purpose is to bring down civilization wherever he goes.

Why do I like him? Because he’s not just a monster, he’s human. He fails, he dies, but he always comes back. And when his powers are strong, he’s terrifying.

So, about the drawing itself, I drew it pencil again in a more realistic-ish style and colored in with photoshop. Trying lots of new techniques for this 30 Day Drawing Challenge. It’s fun. Took a decent chunk out of my day though, this drawing. Le crap. Also his right leg is a bit wrong but TOO BAD, ITS RANDY FLAGG!

Thanks 🙂 getting the grin right was essential so I couldn’t be happier hearing this!
