Quick self portrait - 28 november 2015

A quick self portrait, pretty rough & “unfinished”, uneven eyes and all. Dunno if it looks like me.

Ink & graphite on paper.

Made several variations on a simple self portrait drawing, this is one of them.

Title is from Emily Dickinson’s poem “After great pain a formal feeling comes”;

After great pain a formal feeling comes–
The nerves sit ceremonious like tombs;
The stiff Heart questions–was it He that bore?
And yesterday–or centuries before?

The feet, mechanical, go round
A wooden way
Of ground, or air, or ought,
Regardless grown,
A quartz contentment, like a stone.

This is the hour of lead
Remembered if outlived,
As freezing persons recollect the snow–
First chill, then stupor, then the letting go.

This is the second drawing in this trilogy, and my first time dabbling in Conté sticks!

Day 1: Yourself.

Been a while since I updated, a lot has been happening since my last exhibit. I recently figured I should flex my creative muscles a bit so I decided to try a 30 day drawing challenge. I may interlace it with a photography challenge as well, we’ll see… these challenges are always difficult to see through to the end. So wish me luck.

Day 1 is drawing yourself. This doesn’t look like me though, I loosely based it on a photo of mine but I didn’t follow it too closely. Wouldn’t exactly call it a realistic portrait! In any case, let’s see if I can keep this challenge going. It’s good to upload again in any case.
